Sprocker Spaniel
Dog breed
A popular, highly energetic and intelligent crossbreed combining the Springer Spaniel and the Cocker Spaniel. Originally bred by gamekeepers for working and hunting, Sprockers have boundless stamina, exceptional agility, and a very friendly, loyal temperament.
More about the Sprocker Spaniel
Cocker Spaniels are dogs belonging to two breeds of the spaniel dog type: the American Cocker Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel. Both are commonly called Cocker Spaniel in their countries of origin. In the early 20th century, Cocker Spaniels also included small hunting spaniels.
Living with a Sprocker Spaniel
A springy, whip-smart hybrid of two working spaniels, happiest when its nose and legs are both busy.
Personality & fit
Friendly, affectionate, and eager to please, Sprockers bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with kids and other dogs. They're sharp and curious, which is a joy when channeled into activity but can turn into pestering or restlessness if left without a job to do.
Exercise & energy
Very high energy, these dogs need well over an hour of exercise a day, ideally split into a couple of sessions with real variety. They love running, swimming, fetch, and scent games; a good sniff-filled walk does as much good as a long jog.
Grooming & coat
Coat can lean either wavy and flat (Springer-like) or silkier (Cocker-like), but both shed moderately and pick up debris outdoors easily. Brush a few times a week, check ears often since they're floppy and prone to trapping moisture, and trim around the paws and ears as needed.
Training
Highly trainable and food-motivated, with a strong hunting/retrieving instinct that channels well into structured games and scent work. Start early, keep sessions upbeat, and give them mental work alongside physical exercise or that intelligence will find its own outlets.
Health to watch
As a mix of two spaniel breeds, Sprockers can inherit hip dysplasia, ear infections, and eye conditions like progressive retinal atrophy, regular vet checks, ear cleaning, and knowing the health history of both parent lines help catch issues early.
Good to know
This is not a low-key couch companion. Sprockers do best with active owners who can commit real daily time to exercise and mental stimulation, ideally with some outdoor space to run.
