Maltshi

Maltshis are warm, playful, and genuinely people-oriented, they bond closely with their families and tend to be gentle and outgoing with kids and other pets when raised around them. They can be prone to separation anxiety, so they do best with owners who can include them in daily life rather than leave them alone for long stretches.

Low to moderate energy, a couple of short walks plus some indoor playtime cover their needs. They're happy in apartments and don't require a yard, but they still enjoy games and mental stimulation.

That silky, low-shedding coat is a big draw, but it mats easily and needs brushing several times a week, plus regular trims to keep it manageable. Keep an eye on tear staining around the eyes and check ears regularly.

Smart and eager to please, Maltshis generally take well to training, especially with positive reinforcement and consistency. Housebreaking can take extra patience with small breeds, so stick to a routine and reward often.

As with many small crossbreeds, watch for dental issues (their little mouths crowd teeth easily), patellar luxation (loose kneecaps), and eye sensitivity. Regular vet checkups, dental care, and keeping them at a healthy weight help catch problems early.

Great for singles, seniors, or families wanting an affectionate lap companion, but budget time and money for regular grooming, it's a bigger commitment than the coat's low-shed reputation suggests.
