Danish-Swedish Farmdog

Alert and friendly, Danish-Swedish Farmdogs are curious about everything and bond closely with their people. They're adaptable enough to thrive in a house or on acreage, but they want to be involved in daily life, not left to entertain themselves.

Energetic and athletic for their size, they need a good hour or more of activity daily, walks, fetch, agility, or farm-style jobs like patrolling the yard. Mental challenges matter as much as physical ones; puzzle toys and training games help burn off their sharp minds.

The short, smooth coat is low-maintenance, a weekly brush handles loose hair and keeps shedding in check. Baths are rarely needed unless they've gotten into something messy, which, given their curiosity, happens.

Intelligent and eager to please, they pick up commands fast and enjoy having a task to master. Early socialization and consistent, positive training bring out the best in their confident, sometimes independent streak.

Generally a hardy, long-lived breed, but keep an eye on eyes, hips, and patellas (kneecaps), as with many active small dogs. Routine vet checkups and keeping them at a healthy weight go a long way toward a full, active life.

This is a working breed at heart, they do best with a job, a routine, and plenty of engagement, not a life spent alone in the backyard.
