Australian Terrier

Aussie Terriers are bold, curious, and fiercely loyal to their people, often acting like they don't realize how small they are. They're friendly and affectionate at home but can be wary of strangers and other dogs, making early socialization a good idea.

Moderate energy, a daily walk plus some yard time or playtime keeps them content. They love digging, sniffing, and chasing, so a securely fenced space is a plus.

Their harsh, wiry double coat resists matting and sheds minimally, needing just a weekly brush to stay tidy. Hand-stripping or occasional trimming helps maintain the coat's texture, especially around that signature topknot.

Smart and independent, Aussie Terriers can be a bit stubborn but respond well to short, consistent, reward-based sessions. Their terrier instincts mean a strong prey drive, so recall training and a leash are worth the extra effort.

Generally healthy and long-lived, but some can develop patellar luxation (kneecap slipping), allergies, or diabetes. Routine vet checkups and keeping them at a healthy weight go a long way toward a long, active life.

They're big personalities in small bodies, great watchdogs but not shy about voicing their opinions, so barking can be an issue without early training.
