Airedoodle

Dog breed

Large, intelligent crossbreed resulting from crossing an Airedale Terrier with a Standard Poodle, combining the terrier's confident, courageous nature with the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat qualities

Living with a Airedoodle

A big, clever mash-up of terrier grit and Poodle smarts, bred to be a low-shedding companion with plenty of confidence to spare.

Personality & fit

Airedoodles are bright, alert, and loyal, often forming a strong bond with their family while staying a bit watchful around strangers. They're friendly and courageous rather than shy, and they do best with people who enjoy an active, engaged dog rather than a couch potato.

Exercise & energy

This is an energetic breed that needs a solid hour or more of exercise daily, walks, hikes, or games that let them use both body and brain. Without enough outlets, that terrier confidence and Poodle intelligence can turn into digging, chewing, or general mischief.

Grooming & coat

The coat tends to be low-shedding but still needs regular brushing (a few times a week) to prevent mats, plus trips to a groomer every couple of months for trimming. Ears should be checked regularly, especially if they carry the Poodle's floppy-ear style, to keep moisture and debris from building up.

Training

Airedoodles are quick learners thanks to their Poodle heritage, but that terrier streak means they can be independent thinkers, too. Positive, consistent training with early socialization works best, they respond well to mental challenges like puzzle toys and advanced obedience work.

Health to watch

As a larger, mixed breed, it's worth keeping an eye on hip and elbow health, along with routine ear checks to prevent infections. Reputable breeders often screen parent breeds for joint and eye conditions, so asking about health testing is a good idea if you're getting a puppy.

Good to know

This breed suits active households that want a smart, loyal dog and are ready to keep its mind and body busy, boredom is really the main challenge to plan for.
