More about the Tonkinese
Tonkinese is a domestic cat breed produced by crossbreeding between the Siamese and Burmese. Members of the breed are distinguished by a pointed coat pattern in a variety of colors. In addition to the modified coat colors of the "mink" pattern, which is a dilution of the point color, the breed is now being shown in the foundation-like Siamese and Burmese colors: pointed with white and solid overall (sepia).
Living with a Tonkinese
A social butterfly with a Siamese chatterbox streak and a Burmese cuddle-bug heart, this cat wants to be wherever you are, doing whatever you're doing.
Personality & fit
Tonkinese cats are whip-smart, endlessly curious, and deeply bonded to their people, expect them to supervise cooking, greet guests, and follow you room to room. They're playful enough to entertain themselves but truly happiest with company, making them a great fit for households that are home a lot or have another pet to keep them busy.
Exercise & energy
Energy runs high, so daily play sessions with wand toys or puzzle feeders matter, this isn't a cat content to nap the day away. They're agile climbers and jumpers, so cat trees and shelving help burn off that lively streak.
Grooming & coat
Their short, fine coat is about as low-maintenance as it gets, an occasional brush to catch loose hair is really all they need. Moderate shedding means a weekly once-over keeps fur off the couch.
Training
Their sharp intelligence makes them quick learners, and many Tonkinese take to leash walking, puzzle toys, and even simple tricks with the right treats. They're also chatty and will happily tell you what they think, so expect some back-and-forth conversation.
Health to watch
Generally a sturdy, healthy breed with few major concerns, though routine vet checkups help catch anything early, as with any cat, keeping an eye on dental health and weight goes a long way.
Good to know
This is not a background cat. Tonkinese crave interaction and don't do well left alone for long stretches, so they're best suited to homes with people around or a companion animal to keep them company.
