Living with a Sphynx

A warm, wrinkly extrovert who'd rather cuddle in your lap than curl up alone, all personality, no fur required.

Personality & fit

Sphynx cats are famously social, following their people from room to room and greeting them at the door like a dog would. They're playful, clever, and affectionate, making them a great fit for households that want a cat who's genuinely part of the daily action rather than an aloof observer.

Exercise & energy

Moderate energy but endlessly curious, they love climbing, puzzle toys, and interactive play sessions that engage that sharp mind. A cat tree and some daily playtime keep them happy and out of mischief.

Grooming & coat

No fur doesn't mean no upkeep: their skin produces oils that would normally be absorbed by a coat, so they need a weekly wipe-down or bath to prevent buildup. They're also prone to getting cold, so many owners keep sweaters on hand and a warm spot for napping.

Training

Highly intelligent and eager to interact, Sphynx cats often take well to leash walking, tricks, and puzzle feeders. Positive reinforcement works best, they're motivated by attention and treats alike.

Health to watch

Sphynx cats can be prone to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a heart condition) and skin issues like sunburn or acne, so regular vet checkups and gentle skin care are worthwhile. Keeping them indoors also protects their sensitive skin from sun and temperature extremes.

Good to know

They're considered hypoallergenic-friendly for some allergy sufferers since they produce less shed dander, but they still need real skin care, not just a wipe now and then. This is a cat who craves company, so plan for lots of together time or a feline companion if you're often away.
