Living with a Kurilian
A clever, bobtailed hunter from the Russian wild who turns into a devoted lap cat the moment the front door closes.
Personality & fit
Kurilians are sharp, curious, and social, they bond deeply with their people and often follow them from room to room, hoping for a lap or a game. Gentle with kids, easygoing with dogs, and welcoming to strangers, they fit right into busy, people-filled households.
Exercise & energy
These are high-energy, athletic cats that love to climb, chase, and even play fetch. Puzzle feeders, interactive toys, and a tall cat tree help burn off their considerable brainpower and energy.
Grooming & coat
Their coat is low-maintenance and sheds only lightly, so a weekly brush is usually plenty to keep it neat. That short-to-medium fur and famous stubby tail need little else beyond routine care.
Training
Highly intelligent and eager to engage, Kurilians take well to training, many learn tricks, leash walking, or puzzle toys with ease. Keep sessions short and reward-based to match their playful curiosity.
Health to watch
Overall a robust, healthy breed with few known genetic issues. Routine vet checkups and a good diet are enough to help them make the most of their notably long lifespan.
Good to know
This is not a cat content to be ignored, plan on daily interactive play and company, since their intelligence and social needs mean boredom shows up fast without it.
