Javanese
Cat breed
Javanese are endlessly interested, intelligent and active. They tend to enjoy jumping to great heights, playing with fishing pole-type or other interactive toys and just generally investigating their surroundings. He will attempt to copy things you do, such as opening doors or drawers.
More about the Javanese
The Javanese, also known as the Colorpoint Longhair in some registries, is a variety of purebred domestic cat.
Living with a Javanese
A sleek, chatty acrobat who wants to be involved in everything you do, from opening drawers to holding a conversation about it.
Personality & fit
Sharp, social, and endlessly curious, the Javanese bonds closely with their people and expects to be part of the daily action. They're playful and vocal, happy to 'talk' back to you, and generally do well with kids and other pets when introductions are handled with care.
Exercise & energy
Very high energy, this isn't a cat content to nap all day. Interactive toys, climbing trees, and daily play sessions (fishing-pole toys are a favorite) help burn off their considerable brainpower and athleticism.
Grooming & coat
Despite the long-haired look, the semi-long single coat has no undercoat, so it sheds lightly and rarely mats. A weekly comb-through keeps it smooth, and many people with mild cat allergies find them easier to live with.
Training
Quick to learn and eager to engage, Javanese cats often pick up tricks, puzzle feeders, and even leash walking with ease. Their intelligence means they'll also learn to open doors and cabinets on their own, so mental stimulation and cat-proofing go hand in hand.
Health to watch
Generally a sturdy breed, but as with related Siamese-type cats, it's worth watching for respiratory sensitivities and dental issues. Routine vet checkups and keeping up with dental care help catch anything early.
Good to know
This is a talkative, people-focused cat that doesn't do well ignored for long stretches, best suited to a household with time, interaction, and plenty of toys on hand.
