More about the European Burmese
The Burmese cat is a pedigreed breed of domestic cat, originating in Burma, believed to have its roots near the ThaiโBurma border, and developed by selective breeding in the United States and Britain.
Living with a European Burmese
A velvet-coated shadow who'd rather be underfoot than anywhere else, smart, silky, and endlessly people-focused.
Personality & fit
European Burmese are warm, chatty, and deeply attached to their humans, often picking a favorite but happily greeting everyone who walks through the door. They're playful well into adulthood and don't do well as background pets, they want to be part of whatever you're doing, all day, every day.
Exercise & energy
Energetic and curious, they enjoy interactive play, climbing, and puzzle toys that give their sharp minds something to do. A daily play session or two keeps them satisfied and out of mischief.
Grooming & coat
Their short, glossy coat is about as low-maintenance as it gets, an occasional wipe-down or light brush is plenty to keep shedding in check.
Training
Highly intelligent and eager to engage, European Burmese often take to leash walking, clicker training, or learning tricks faster than you'd expect from a cat. They respond best to positive reinforcement and enjoy the mental workout.
Health to watch
Generally a sturdy breed, though some lines can be prone to diabetes and dental issues, so keep an eye on weight and get regular checkups. A good diet and routine vet visits go a long way toward keeping them healthy for their long lifespan.
Good to know
This is not a low-maintenance-in-attention cat, they're vocal, social, and thrive with company, so they're best suited to homes where someone is around often or another pet can keep them company.
