Australian Mist
Cat breed
The Australian Mist thrives on human companionship. Tolerant of even the youngest of children, these friendly felines enjoy playing games and being part of the hustle and bustle of a busy household. They make entertaining companions for people of all ages, and are happy to remain indoors between dusk and dawn or to be wholly indoor pets.
More about the Australian Mist
The Australian Mist is a breed of cat developed in Australia. It is a cross between the Abyssinian, the Burmese, and domestic shorthair spotted tabby cats. The Australian Mist has a distinct and unique faded coat appearance hence the name. Their eyes are green, and they bear eumelanistic colours and spotted or 'marbled' tabby patterns in their coats.
Living with a Australian Mist
A sociable, easygoing cat that would rather be curled up with you or joining the family chaos than off exploring on its own.
Personality & fit
Affectionate and people-focused, the Australian Mist genuinely loves company and does well with kids, other pets, and even dogs. They're playful without being demanding, and their relaxed nature makes them adaptable to busy, noisy households.
Exercise & energy
Moderately active, they enjoy interactive play and games but are just as happy lounging nearby. A few short play sessions a day with toys or a feather wand keeps them content, and they're perfectly fine as indoor-only cats.
Grooming & coat
Their short, faded-pattern coat is low-maintenance and sheds a moderate amount. A weekly brush keeps it looking its best and cuts down on loose hair around the house.
Training
Smart and eager to be near their people, which makes them receptive to learning tricks, leash walking, or puzzle feeders. Positive reinforcement and consistency work well, especially since they're motivated by attention and treats.
Health to watch
Generally a robust, healthy breed with few known genetic issues. Routine vet checkups and a good diet are usually all it takes to keep them thriving well into their teens.
Good to know
This is a breed that craves company, so it's best suited to homes where someone is around often, they're not the type to enjoy long stretches alone.
